LLMs for Brain Health Hackathon Official Rules
Submission to participate in the Hackathon by any and all individuals constitute agreement to the Official Rules of the Hackathon and each participant consents to be bound by all the terms and conditions stated herein.
Each participant or team participating in the Hackathon may submit one project for a chance to win one of the prizes outlined in the Official Rules.

1. BACKGROUND
1.1 The Dynamic Brain Circuits Research Cluster is hosting a hackathon event scheduled to take place on March 24th, 2023 to March 26th, 2023. The Hackathon schedule is as follows:
Competition Period: 12:30 PDT March 24th, 2023 - 23:45 PDT March 26th, 2023
Submission Period: 12:30 PDT March 24th, 2023 - 23:45 PDT March 26th, 2023
Judging Period: 8:00 PDT March 27th, 2023 - 23:59 PDT April 7nd, 2023
1.2 The deadline for registration in the Hackathon is 12:29 PDT March 24th, 2023.
1.3 The Hackathon shall take place primarily in-person, with a virtual option.
1.4 Lunch and dinner will be provided on March 25th and March 26th for onsite Participants.
1.5 No purchase is required to participate in or win the Hackathon. No purchase or payment will improve a participant’s chance of winning the Hackathon.
2. DEFINITIONS
2.1 “Participants” means entrants in the Hackathon, who must participate in a team of no more than five individuals.
2.2 “Team” means a group entrant of no more than five individuals.
2.3 “Team Representative” means the representative of each Team who is authorized to represent, act on behalf of, and enter a submission for the Team.
2.4 “LLMs for Brain Health 2023” means the Hackathon that is to take place as defined in Section 1.
2.5 “Judge” means third-party volunteers from the brain health or neuroscience community appointed by LLMs for Brain Health 2023.
2.6 “Project” means the final submission entered during the Submission Period by each Team Representative.
2.7 “Code” means any software program written as part of a Submission to the Hackathon.
3. ELIGIBILITY
3.1 Participants must be the age of majority under the laws of the jurisdiction in which they reside.
3.2 Participants may have only one entry with one Team.
3.3 Participants must be eligible to receive prizes in competitions such as the Hackathon under the laws of the jurisdiction in which they reside in order to be eligible to receive any prize money.
4. SUBMISSIONS
4.1 Participants may submit one (1) Project to be evaluated by the Hackathon Judges consisting of the following:
4.1.1 A Project Summary
A written project summary of approximately 250 words.
4.1.2 A Project Presentation
A 5-minute video presentation.
A rubric for the video presentation will be provided to Participants.
4.1.3 Proof-of-Concept
A proof-of-concept demonstrating that the Project has the potential to be realistically executed. Depending on the Team, this may be a project code repository (see 4.1.3a) or a flowchart/diagrammatic representation (see 4.1.3b).
4.1.3a A Project Code Repository
A link to a public GitHub repository.
A link to a public GitHub repository is required if code, incomplete or finished, is produced or used during the Competition Period.
4.1.3b A Flowchart/Diagrammatic Representation
A flowchart/diagrammatic representation that explains algorithms, workflows, or processes.
The flowchart/diagrammatic representation should ultimately illustrate a solution model to the Team's problem with sufficiently compelling detail.
4.2 The Project should be a largely new project that is organically grown during the Competition Period of the Hackathon and distinct from other activities of the participants.
5. PRIZES
5.1 Each Participant on the winning (first-place) Team will receive UBC merchandise with a cash value equal to $200 CAD.
5.2 If there are over five (5) Teams participating, there will be second-place and third-place prizes.
5.3 Each Participant on the second-place Team will receive UBC merchandise with a cash value equal to $100 CAD.
5.4 Each Participant on the third-place Team will receive UBC merchandise with a cash value equal to $50 CAD.
5.5 The first Team to publish a paper based on their Hackathon Project in a peer-reviewed journal will receive an additional prize. This is available to Teams regardless of their placing in the Hackathon.
5.6 Each member of the Team will receive UBC Bookstore merchandise with a cash value equal to $100 CAD.
5.7 The Prizes are subject to change without notice.
LLMs for Brain Health Code of Conduct
The Hackathon shall take place primarily in-person at the Djavad Mowafaghian (UBC) Centre for Brain Health. Participants, onsite and virtual, are required to conduct themselves in accordance to the UBC Statement on Respectful Environment for Students, Faculty, and Staff.
The Hackathon does not tolerate harassment of Participants in any form. Participants violating these rules may be expelled from the Hackathon at the discretion of the Hackathon organisers.
